We visited our long-time retail partner Martin Meier in his unique world of design objects and immediately grabbed our cameras so you can get a glimpse behind the beautiful shapes and colors.
Dear Martin, who attracts unique people?
We strive to appeal to a broad target audience with our product range, from young to old. Our customers are curious and interested in good design, sustainable and new products, as well as classics. You'll find something special for every budget – from everyday accessories to bathroom and kitchen items, fashion, lighting, and furniture for the home and garden.
How has your concept evolved over the years?
We started einzigart here on Josefstrasse over 25 years ago. It was one of the first concept stores in Switzerland. Although I prefer to replace that term with Selected Design. We're constantly evolving, our selection is constantly changing, and we've evolved from a small gift shop into a popular furniture store. We cultivate our curated selection of small objects with the same passion as our range of furniture and lighting.
The three top criteria for purchasing:
Quality, materials and durability, but also functionality and utility, design and style, sustainability, fairness and craftsmanship.
A popular consumer assumption that you disagree with:
I have no idea. But a courier once told me that his grandfather always said he had far too little money to buy cheap things. I agree: quality has its price.

What are your ideas of good taste?
Good taste is highly subjective and depends on individual preferences, cultural backgrounds, and personal experiences. In general, good taste is often associated with aesthetics, harmony, functionality, and quality. High-quality materials and craftsmanship, combined with outstanding design, are evidence of good taste. People who value quality often prefer long-lasting products. A well-designed item should not only look beautiful, but also be practical and durable. However, what's good for one person may not appeal to another—that's what makes the topic so diverse and exciting. As we all know, there's always room for debate about taste—or not.
Speaking of taste, how do you like to eat your granola?
Preferably with organic plain yogurt and seasonal fruit, and almost every breakfast. Usually with some almond flakes as a topping. And the day can begin.
