AN INTERVIEW WITH SCENOGRAPHER DÖLF BACHMANN

Scenographer Dölf Bachmann, a longtime friend of Sibylle, plays a key role in our construction project. For months, he has been working with us to create the optimal, harmonious bakery layout. He is helping us create a space where processes are simplified and the conditions are better suited to our sometimes physically demanding work. And he makes it all look harmonious and artistic. In his Zurich workshop—which is a true treasure trove for us—we encounter a wealth of beautiful wood and antique finds, which Dölf breathes new life into for use in our factory.

Several books could be written about you and your life story. But let's focus on your main craft, using reclaimed wood. Where does your interest in creating tables from precious wood come from?

A table brings people together, as well as their thoughts. Tables serve as a place for communal eating and drinking, conversation and silence, work and rest. Amidst all that changes over time and makes the familiar strange, the table remains.

How can you recognize your tables and what makes them special?

Together with my clients, I design the form and feel, transforming my old tables for their new purpose. My tables are thus no longer subject to the dictates of a particular era or design, and are unique works of art, appreciated by the user and recognizable by the viewer.

You've given us a lot of your valuable time to play a key role in the design of our bakery. What motivates you to do this?

The joy of creating and the connection to the craftsmanship of The Tiny Factory and my own make me even happier! The table was the birthplace of our shared ideas.

Which product from The Tiny Factory is your favorite and how do you enjoy it?

I often have the roasted nuts as a side dish to my "Art Cuisine Brut" – broccoli cooked in salted water with the salted nuts crunchy, is one of my favorites.
